ROLL CALL #1 CLASS #6

Learning ladder of Class 5's homework, from Class 6
Seeing if everyone did their course diagram and house assignments

In class we created vector and bitmap graphics of coins, specifically a silver dollar and a gold Susan B. Anthony dollar. We learned of the differences between the two formats, primarily the ability to scale and resize.

ROLL CALL #2, CLASS #5

Roll Call 2 from Class 5

In class we learned about texture maps, and the differences between bitmap and vector graphics. We also started on two exercises to create a course diagram and a house in Microsoft Word to practice using vector graphics.

Creating Midterm 10

B.6 Video Tutorial: Word Drawing House

Triangle created, edited so it uses a texture. Rectangle created, using a brick pattern.

Window created, filled with light blue color. Copied the window, placed on other side of the house.
Door created, colored it red.
Doorknob created, colored it orange, changed the transparency.

Sun added. Text in the sun added, font size changed so name fits.

Chimney added. It's actually a triangle rotated and a rectangle together. No black borders, since it'd look like two shapes.
Smoke added, colored gray.

Curvy lines from the sun added. Hard to see since they're yellow.

People added.

This is the process of creating and using vector graphics in Microsoft Word 2007. The above picture of a typical house.

Class 5: Shaded and Texture-Mapped Screenshots from RocketWorld

Examples of solid-shaded and texture-mapped objects in Rocket World. The first three are solid-shaded, the latter three are texture-mapped.

 A Rocket.

 Obstacle Course.

A(nother) Rocket.

A NASA billboard. Also, texture-mapped columns too!

Texture-mapped photo of the Mars Rover. Also, texture-mapped floor/wall!

Slab of stone.

Class 5: Vector Graphics (Texture Maps vs. Shaded/Colored)

Reading the Wiki article talking about the differences between vector graphics and bitmaps

3D Models of a tank. With a texture map, you're able to realistically represent what a tank should look like by applying multiple bitmap (2D) images and wrapping it about a surface. Obviously, the difference is that the shaded/colored one doesn't look realistic at all and entire surfaces are the same flat color (aside from shadows affecting the object)

Nothing new, essentially catch-up time.

In class we learned about texture maps, and the differences between bitmap and vector graphics. We also started on two exercises to create a course diagram and a house in Microsoft Word to practice using vector graphics.

B.7 GIMPshop Tutorial #4) understanding and using layers
B.7 GIMPshop Tutorial #6) animated GIFs
 [name the gif "midterm6.gif"]

Finished PNG image of Tux using layers in GIMP

Finished animated GIF with my name // midterm6.gif

These are examples of using layers in GIMP/GIMPshop. The first picture is of a penguin with a transparent background layered UNDER a text layer with a transparent background. The second image is 5 GIFs layered on top of each other, each rotated 45 degrees to form an animated GIF.

It is a midterm exercise from the Immersive Education course that I am taking at Boston College. The course is called Discovering Computer Graphics. For details, visit the immersive BC portal at http://ImmersiveEducation.org/@/bc

Creating Midterm 6

Switched to GIMP because GIMPshop is terrible

Layers being shown in GIMP, Text has been added

Layers have been added, this is the image with the New (white) Layer not visible

with the New (white) Layer visible

The image with the opacity of the New (white) Layer @ 60.5%

Tux added to the image, layers shuffled around so he's behind the text and semi-opaque layer

Image created, with a text circle layer with my name

Text circle copied into a new (white) layer

Adding the new layer and rotating it

Added another 3 layers to it, saving as animation and exporting

Animated GIF options, "Loop Forever" checked, "Delay" set to 500 milliseconds

This is the process used to created a layered image with transparency, and an animated GIF in GIMP.
